Back to School Store

Our largest annual event, the Back-To-School Store, provides quality backpacks, stylish athletic shoes, socks, underwear. and dental necessities to nearly 1,500 elementary students.  Our organization also provides an additional 1,500 middle-school students backpacks!

This event happens each August, but our donation needs and volunteer support is a year-round project. Between set-up days and the day-of, we are grateful to receive support from nearly 800 community volunteers. We are always in need of new backpacks, shoes, packages of socks and underwear, and storybooks, and would be blessed to receive donations of these items throughout the entire year.

Basics Programs

Service League directly impacts the children of our community through our Basic Programs: Basics for Babies, Basic Necessities, and Teens for Independent Living. Each program is carefully designed to serve a specific age group of children and their needs. With Service League’s limited budget it is essential that the many needed items to support each program be donated or purchased at the deepest discounts. Each program is run by a one or two volunteer women committee and runs from September through June. These important programs are further defined below.

Basics for Babies

Service League’s Basic for Babies program provides over 100 at-risk newborn babies with items that are specifically needed and requested including layettes, diapers, blankets, pacifiers, and much more.  We work with agencies including the Brown County Health Department, Family Services, and local hospitals who deliver our newborn packages during home assessment visits.  These items are greatly  appreciated by our new young parents and it is our continued pleasure to provide them.  If you would like to contribute items or submit a cash donation please contact us.  Any other gently used baby items are always appreciated and will be distributed by the many agencies we work with.

Basic Necessities

The Basic Necessities program provides needed items for school-aged children who are homeless. We work directly with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Program through the Green Bay Public School District to identify the changing needs for these children, to provide them with winter items, gift cards, earbuds, school supplies and other identified items.

The one-person Basic Necessities Committee is in charge of gathering the inventory for the next school year. These bargain-shopping Service League women scout for the best deals on clearance items so we can maximize the number of items we provide to the schools. We then go through the long process of taking inventory of the items, to make it easier for the school district to access and distribute them to the individual schools. The Basic Necessities program is just one of the ways Service League quietly enhances the lives of hundreds of local children each year. If you would like to contribute items or submit a cash donation please contact us.

Teens for Independent Living

Each year, teenagers throughout Brown County turn 18 years of age and no longer qualify for foster family living. Being a teenager and responsible for living on your own is a daunting transition to make – Service League helps several of these individuals during their transitional stage. This past year, Service League was proud to assist eighteen teenagers through this program. Items in each of our ‘apartment kits’ include: a set of sheets, comforter, pillows, blankets, towels, bath mats, shower curtains, plates, silver ware, kitchen knives, cups, strainers, pots and pans, kitchen utensils, oven mitts, kitchen towels, and a brand new vacuum.

Big Event

Service League of Green Bay has a long-standing partnership with Encompass and the families they serve. We participate in many of their programs including their annual Big Event. In participation of this event, the Service League of Green Bay will sponsor an ‘Adopt a Friend” stuffed animal sale and a book stand to help raise funds for Encompass during this family-friendly event.

Giving Tree

Each year, there are families whom aren’t able to afford Christmas presents for their children. As an organization, we believe in the magic of the season. Our members generously select families to support out of their own personal funds to make Christmas a magical time for many families. We partner with Encompass to select the families whom we’re able to bring Christmas joy to.
